Frequently Asked Questions
+ What is Functional/Lifestyle medicine?
Despite the vastness of technological advancement, innovation, and progress – our society, our world, is getting increasingly sick each and every day. Chronic inflammatory disorders, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, hormonal imbalances, mental illness, obesity and autoimmune conditions are becoming increasingly prevalent. The complexity of modern-day chronic illness, with its various presentations, continue to evolve. They evade the most progressive treatment plans and baffle the brightest and most experienced minds in conventional medicine.
Unfortunately, a health care system with a microscopic view of illness will consistently miss the interconnectedness of these complex presentations. Traditional approaches seek to name, blame and tame the problem through arsenals of expensive drugs and procedures that never seem to yield effective and lasting results. They fail to treat the underlying problem, fail to reverse dis-ease, fail to help clients do more than exist – but thrive. Herein lies the problem.
Functional + lifestyle medicine is individualized medicine – it is an approach that asks why? We understand that symptoms are simply a manifestation of an underlying dysfunction. Our goal is to unearth these imbalances and restore the body to its proper function.
We believe that healing comes when the gaze widens to intimately understand the subtle elements that give rise to dis-ease such as genetic factors, environmental exposures, societal influences, stress, and lifestyle. We believe this approach, for the sake of restoration and healing, is GOOD MEDICINE.
+ Do you accept insurance?
As a wellness plan based clinic, we do not accept insurance. This allows us to practice unencumbered by the restrictions imposed by insurance companies and provide the best and most comprehensive care possible.
+ Can I use insurance for labs?
Yes, in some cases, depending on the lab. Some labs accept and bill insurance and some do not. We will submit insurance for testing whenever possible.
+ Do you prescribe regular medications?
Yes, we prescribe regular medications when needed. Although our aim is to use natural treatments when possible, we value and utilize conventional medicine when appropriate.
