Infrared Sauna
Infrared sauna or infrared therapy uses electromagnetic energy with wavelengths that are longer than that of visible light. Infrared delivers radiant energy + heat that is absorbed 1-2” into the surface of the skin. Our bodies naturally send + receive electromagnetic energy and infrared therapy should not be confused with harmful UV rays.
Because the body is being directly heated via this energy, clients experience a deeper sweat than those would receive in traditional saunas, without the excessive heat. Average infrared sauna temperatures can range from 125-150° F. Traditional saunas can reach 200° F and can be much more uncomfortable due to the excessively humid environment.
Infrared Sauna Therapy offers a host of benefits, these include:
Anti-Aging + Skin Support – Deep sweating that occurs during Infrared Sauna Therapy naturally clears pores, improves circulation, enhances elasticity, evens skin tone, and clears rashes (eczema, psoriasis, acne, etc.), giving you a beautiful glow!
Cardiovascular Health – Infrared Sauna offers a broad range of cardiovascular + circulatory support. Frequent use has been linked to reduced risks of cardiovascular disease, sudden cardiac arrest, and coronary artery disease.
Detox – Environmental toxins abound! Be it inherited, what we breathe in, take in, or apply, toxins are prevalent and exceedingly harmful. Sweating facilitates the proper release of these accumulations and activates increased elimination. Regular Infrared Sauna Therapy sessions expedites healing and promotes wellness.
Fatigue Reduction – Regular Infrared Sauna used improves sleep quality significantly.
Muscle Recovery – Performance matters, but so does recovery. Increased, oxygen rich circulation post workout supports an expedited recovery, reduced lactic acid, easing tension + soreness.
Neurologic Support – Recent studies show a substantial reduction in neurologic disease (Alzheimer’s dementia, cognitive decline, etc.) when Infrared Sauna is regularly used!
Pain Relief – There are innumerable studies that have shown the benefits of regular Infrared Sauna use with pain reduction. Essentially, though increased circulation, inflammation is reduced and healing begins!
Stress Relief – Chronic stress is a prevalent problem in modern society. When left unchecked, significant harm can ensure, triggering disease of various forms. Infrared sauna therapy allows you to unplug, breathe deeply, and take a few vital minutes of selfcare your body needs and deserves.
Weight Loss – As your core temperature increases, as does your metabolism, circulatory function, and heart rate. Various studies suggest that hundreds of calories (up to 700!) can be burned in a single 30-minute session. When used regularly, proper metabolism is increased, maintained, supportive of your weight loss goals.
Why it’s important
Toxins are pervasive and no one is without exposure, even before birth! Toxins disrupt the function of hormones, damage DNA, impede gut health and the absorption of nutrients, as well as damage metabolism – literally making us sick and tired. The effect of toxins can manifest in our body in various ways. Unfortunately, this can affect people of any age. Later in life, the effects of toxins are commonly dismissed as “natural” consequences of aging.
Sweat is the body’s natural form of detoxification. Thankfully, infrared sauna is an excellent adjuvant therapy.
What to expect
Since many materials absorb the infrared rays, minimal clothing is recommended for maximum effect. The infrared sauna emitters are designed to heat you and not necessarily the air inside the sauna. It is not a hot box like a traditional sauna. The temperature gauge is a guide for your safety. It is recommended that you drink water before, during, and after sauna use to prevent dehydration since body fluids will be lost through perspiration. It is not recommended to shower after use since the pores in your skin will be open and could possibly absorb anything in the water.
For the first few times of use, you may use 115 degrees Fahrenheit as a reference starting point for a time period of about 15 minutes (this represents the actual time you are in the sauna at the desired temperature). As you become more comfortable and familiar with the sauna, you can increase the temperature and time period according to personal preference.
*Ideally, during detoxification, sauna should be used 2-3 times weekly.
