The often forgotten, pinecone shaped gland, located near the center of the brain. About the size of a grain of rice (5-8mm), this structure was thought to be non-functional until various discoveries in the 1960’s proved otherwise. It was found that this endocrine gland wields substantial control over sleep modulation and sexual development.

These findings encouraged researchers to dive deeper and better understand its comprehensive function, symptoms of dysfunction, and methods by which one can achieve pineal health.
I hope to unpack that for you today.
First, let’s talk about function: The pineal gland is responsible for melatonin – a serotonin-derived hormone responsible for sleep modulation, circadian rhythm, and reproductive physiology. In short, this gland should not be ignored!
Next, let’s talk dysfunction: Due to increasing prevalence of pineal calcification (mainly believed to be due to fluoride), the dysfunction of this essential gland is getting some long overdue attention! Symptoms of pineal calcification include, but are not limited to: sleep disorders, headache + migraine attacks, reduced cognition + reaction times, and reproductive problems. Perhaps the most concerning, is its precursor to neurogenerative disorders and links to early puberty in children.
Animal studies echo these findings – with fluoride exposure being directly linked to decreased melatonin and quickened sexual development in females. Conversely, a recent study found that a fluoride-free diet in rats actually stimulated pineal function + growth. In addition, reduced pineal size has recently been linked to increased likelihood of mood disorders.
Here’s the good news – there are a plethora of natural, proven methods available to decalcify the gland. First, be mindful of your fluoride exposure and reduce this immediately!
